Verdict:
For some of our more sophisticated
and weirder readers, this is a genuine case of
post punk dark psychedelia. Turning Black Like
Lizards are a Black Country band inspired by
the likes of some of the post punk and more
abstract psychedelic acts of the 60's, 70's and
80's. 'Always Staring At The Sun' is a cryptic
consciousness-expanding
hallucinatory
psychoactive stunner of a tune which reeks of
great garage bands from the past but executed
in a very clever modern fashion. I imagine
Turning Black Like Lizards will appeal to a lot of
fans of underground music; probably for people
who like bands like Killing Joke, The Pixies or
Southern Death Cult too. 'Always Staring At The
Sun' ends with wonderful screaming guitars and
leaves you with a dessert-like thirst for more.

TURNING BLACK LIKE
LIZARDS
Verdict:
More furious grinding and punk honey
from the Wyre Forest. This latest collection of
songs offers more intense raw punk the way it
should be heard; as anticipated, it's very
intentionally designed to provoke a reaction.
Songs include the sarcastic anthem 'Horsefair
Love' with surf rock guitar solo; the
Ramones-esque 'I Bought A Bike' and there's
the intellectually rectum stimulating 'Fire In The
Ass' with the angelic line “I need a shit in a hurry”
which is a nugget of pure brown gold. Despite
the strong language and acute rawness there's
a lot musically and politically said on this album
and maybe 'My Friend The Gun' says it best in
this punk rock opera opus which could fit in well
with any Pink Floyd writing session. I insist you
check out The Alopecia Trio for an over due slap
in the face. Other highlights include 'Wings Of
Fudge' and 'Automatic Vulva'.
