Verdict:
A good demo is just that; a way of getting attention for your
band. Birmingham based GOING DIABLO sent me a collection of
acoustic recordings but they just asked my opinion as a reviewer what I thought of them instead
of asking me for a review; which I figured was a very unique way to approach a magazine.
It worked, this is an absolute nugget of pure gold; what they sent was inspiring. I checked
their soundcloud and got hooked so good work reeling me in. Tunes like 'A day In The
Life' written by Paul Hancox are a delight to hear, sounded like a modern day version
of PAUL WELLER, CROWDED HOUSE, THE EAGLES and something I can't put
my finger on but I loved it. Their acoustic tunes, especially their delicate but edgy
number 'Queen Of My Heart' written by GD member Emmanuel Grigoriou, are
warm, deep and emotional; possibly fuelled by the Greek sounding influences and
incredible vocals. It needs to be released as a single or made bigger. Both of these
are an example of pure brilliant song writing and I do hope this band realise that they
are on to something special here. Some of the best new music I've heard in a long
time. This is massive stuff.

Verdict:
A medley of likeable styles from the get go;
fresh new light alternative rock or post-grunge Newcastle Under Lyme band
STICKMAN STAYS release a live demo EP of four of their songs. My advice to this band
is to record in a professional studio from now on (no offence meant at all); most reviewers
aren't as understanding as me. Having a keyboard in a grunge sounding band is a nice edge.
Perhaps they need to go the full hog and continue to milk that trait, pick their next tune and
record a classic? I've seen this band perform live and they are energetic and exciting but
although this is a live CD I've heard them do better but that could be down to the recordings.
'I'm Had' and 'Apologies' are the highlights on this EP but bigger sounding studio versions would
be epic as they are good songs. In their defence, this band only formed this year; but if they spend
time and more money on their next release then you could be hearing big things from them. Watch
out for STICKMAN STAYS.
