RYAN'S GIG GUIDE SEPTEMBER 2015 - page 20

The Verdict :
The new album 'Play The Game' from
Birmingham band Silent Jack is the follow up to
their
release 'Snakebite' and whereas
previously they may have appeared first as just
one of those young hopefuls who love the
's the LA scene and bands who star jump
like Aerosmith Motley Crue and Guns N'
Roses; now they're polished with bigger
production more accessible songs and looking
like they want to take on the big players with
this smart thirteen track album One thing that
you realise on listening to the full album is that
Silent Jack really are playing the game as nearly
all the songs on here are strictly under four
minutes and seem totally targeted for radio
stations a mistake that many bands covering
this genre make with their nine minute long
Slash like solos
The Music :
Tunes like 'Too many women' with the
following chorus line “ and not enough time”
just paint the rock and roll canvas perfectly and
effortlessly possibly a good choice for a single
Like every good 's rock album every rose has
it's thorn or ballad and this recording is no
different; 'Turn Away' is their zippo lighter
launcher and it's safe to say that this will be one
of the fan favourites Make no mistake though;
there is plenty of originality on show here as
songs like 'I Am The Law' demonstrate with an
incredible guitar riff to make Guitar Hero
enthusiasts get hand cramp Another law song
'Outlaw' has a wonderful harmonica intro and
by the end of the album you just know that
Silent Jack are onto a winner here Playing the
game and possibly winning it; this is a strong
