Verdict:
Five acoustic tracks which span the
four studio albums and eleven years of the band
running. Staring with 'Don't Get Me Wrong' which
goes back to their debut album and is obviously
a more mellow version done extremely well; the
guitar solo in the original was glorious and here
they've saluted it with a more than fitting
arrangement. There's also 'Zaire' the title track
of their 3rd studio album and the tender 'Heaven
Inside You'; another song from their first album.
There's a version of 'Gas Pedal Screaming' from
the 2009 release 'Remove Release Rewire' and
finally one of my favourites 'Gumstream' from the
critically acclaimed and most recent studio
album 'The Rocket Pool' which is a gentle and
gospel-like masterpiece of charm. This is a must
if you are a big Soley Mourning fan but also a
great example of Black Country musicianship.
Vocally Mat Partidge gives the performance of
his career on this truly eloquent release.

SOLEY MOURNING
Verdict:
I picked up this 8 track live demo at
a show I saw at The Giffard Arms in
Wolverhampton and the reason why was
because the band are truly phenomenal live;
they have this live CD which I honestly feel
doesn't really do them justice but there is genius
here and it's my job to point it out. The Sleep
Experiment are one of the freshest, dirtiest,
exciting and bizarre acts I've seen in a while but
I'm going to be brutal here; skip the first five
tracks and concentrate on the last three because
this is where they shine the most. 'Lions Led By
Donkeys' is a remarkable Zeppelin meets early
Soundgarden meets RATM feel song and it's
absolutely brilliant, soon as I heard them play
this live I had to have their CD just so that I could
tell people about them. 'Moodhoover' and 'The
Beargraad Conspiracy' are further examples of
their lovable demented space rock sound.
Clearly this is a live demo, I pray they invest in
recording full professional studio versions as
they have potential to be a very successful band
indeed.
