participants in the celebrity threesome but I'm
not convinced Anyway in totally unrelated
other news a decorated Los Angeles police
captain is suing Elton John for sexual
harassment and claiming that he was groped in
an offensive manner repeatedly by the singer
whilst he was working off duty as a security
guard; perhaps Saturday Night's alright for
groping?
Record Store Day this year was a massive
success Birmingham's oldest record shop The
Diskery celebrated with live music provided by
members of the band Institutes and as many
did around the UK made a salute to Vinyl and
CD Record stores this year are reported to have
been at their busiest in five years Musicians
around the world made clear their support for
record stores music heavyweights Metallica
for example played a set at the Rasputin Music
store in California and opened up with a
rendition of Diamond Head's classic “Helpless”
A new film titled “All Things Must Pass the Rise
and Fall of Tower Records” is released in the UK
during May on DVD about the legendary record
store chain According to a recent news article
in The Mirror celebrities such as Elton John are
included in the documentary film voicing their
praise for Tower Records; it sure is nice to see
Elton John appear in newspaper headlines these
days
A recent article on the BBC website stated that
the beeb is soon to “ strengthen its focus on
new and homegrown talent on its national
music stations Radio and Radio ” Whilst this
appears at first quite radical and indeed noble
of them plus exciting for any undiscovered
artists and bands in the UK let's not forget that
British artists such as Sam Smith Adele and Ed
Sheeran accounted for five of the top selling
albums last year as the global music industry
generated bn (M bn) In recent years Steve
Lamacq of Radio has done an incredible job of
providing exposure to some UK talent; we can
only hope this will be mirrored by the BBC's two
largest radio stations
An American period drama set in the 's about
the music industry called Vinyl has recently
completed its first series run on SKY Atlantic
and became more popular each week with it's
nostalgic trips recreating moments of history
with actors mimicking music icons such as Alice
Cooper David Bowie New York Dolls and Led
Zeppelin to name a few The show created by
Mick Jagger Martin Scorsese Rich Cohen and
Terence Winter is argued to be the truest
interpretation of the music industry yet
Whilst I'm quite certain that Jesus didn't walk
around thinking that he's Bono it would appear
that General Saint Sir Bono is back again trying
to save the world This time round he's
preaching to US Senators at the Dirksen Senate
Office Building proposing an alternative to
airstrikes and suggesting that we could counter
violent extremism by sending in comedians to
disarm them Arguably we're assuming that
Bono was asked to appear at the senate sub
committee to talk about handling extremist
groups because of his vast experience of being
a singer of an Irish rock band that was quite
popular in the mid eighties they probably
couldn't get Feargal Sharkey
Further evidence of streaming sites using
criminal like measures have come to light with
news of US company Tidal being hit with a
class action law suit for deceptive marketing
Millions subscribed to the company with the
promise that a Kanye West album would be
exclusive to people who subscribe to Tidal Yet
later that same album appeared elsewhere for
sale Arguably this act of deception is a major
blow to artists such as Madonna Coldplay and
Daft Punk who put their credibility and artistic
reputation on the line to support the streaming
site It's reported that Rihanna's alleged former
publicist slammed Jay Z's subscription only
service calling it a "disaster" after her clients
album sold just
copies in the first week

around the world tra a bit
