Shaun and Black Grape bandmate Kermit have
crossed paths since the group split (they did a
one off gig in Brixton a few years ago with
Manc MC Tonn Piper drafted in to the band)
but Kermit has never “been ready” to do Black
Grape again
“This time he’s in a good place ” Shaun smiles
“He’s ready healthy and fit He’s and looks
he must be doing something right We
went into rehearsals and we’ve got a great
band together: Dan (Saber) Mikey (Shine)
and some great sessions guys I went in with
Kermit and they’d got six songs down; me and
Kermit did our bit and it was like we’d be
practicing for years It was like putting an
old pair of comfy shoes on It’s like that with
the Mondays; it’s just a pleasure now Age
maturity we can enjoy what we’re doing No
treadmill bullshit ”
According to Shaun Black Grape’s looming
anniversary has pretty much skipped his
attention He had to be reminded by his record
label But hearing the music played with the
band again has restored the confidence he felt
when he first formed the group when
everyone even old friend and Factory Records
boss Tony Wilson the man who once called
Shaun “Keats” said they had “blown it” by
splitting up the Mondays
