Sailing On A Pool
Of Tears
This was the
second music
video I directed
for Birmingham
rock and blues
artist Rebecca
Downes. The stakes were high as it had to
impress a few folks in the USA due to the recent
signing of a management deal over there. For
this project, a photography studio called
Far
Forest Studio
was hired as a location. This was
crucial because lighting is always very
important and I knew there would need to be
plenty of close up shots, so where better than a
photographic studio with all the lighting we need
in a controlled environment? The results? It
received just under 50'000 views on YouTube in
a fortnight and it's her most successful video to
date so I think we did alright.

When you have a lot of extras in a music video,
it's vital to ensure that they're all aware of what's
expected of them. Everyone involved acted
extremely convincingly and the difficult mission
was capturing their performances on camera as
there was so much going on at the same time.
What helped guarantee the success of this film
shoot was the high level of organisation. There
were a team of make up artists and an HQ to
set up and prepare in the Stourbridge music
venue known as Claptrap. Not only did the
finished music video look superb, but the filming
process itself attracted the attention of local
newspapers, radio stations and media because
it was all done in broad daylight Great publicity
for The Humdrum Express and so much fun for
me to be involved with.
Graveyard
Planet
This particular
music video is
still in post
production but
I'm very excited
about it. One of
the key factors I've found when shooting a
music video is that if the location looks terrific
then it's less to worry about. All I can reveal
about this is that it's the largest film set I've ever
been on, it matches any good post apocalyptic
Hollywood movie set and the band were solid in
their performance. When you have an
experienced and crushing thrash death metal
band like Warlord and a location that resembles
the entrance to hel,l then you are on to a winner
I reckon. Look out for this one coming out soon.
