RYAN'S GIG GUIDE August 2017 - page 12

Verdict:
Birmingham three piece band Killer
BOB led by frontwoman and guitarist Nat Bite
describe themselves well as aggro grunge and
release this hard double A-side single. 'Francine
Putrescine' erupts like it's page one of the
Melvins handbook for being in your face as
singer Nat explodes like a grown up Babes In
Toyland showing solid diversity throughout. This
is no Veruca Salt, hardcore sounding as hell and
it's a welcome blast of heaviness for the
Birmingham scene. 'Woman, Leviathan' is an
uptempo wall of anvils and there's certainly no
room spare for any violins. Overall this is a tight
tough unit filed with delightful creative angst.
Guitar and riff wise, although the band openly
salute a lot of musicians from the 90s grunge
scene, to me sound more inspired by early
Biohazard during the Urban Discipline years.
You can download their music from Spotify and
if you enjoy bands such as Pantera, L7 or
Meshuggah then you can certainly rock to this.

Verdict:
West Midland based indie rock
power trio Solsara are highly recommended for
fans of Kasabian. This impressive five track EP
'The Shop Of Dubious Legality' is their debut
release and tracks such as the arguably indie
funk inspired opener 'Midori' with its very
commercial hook chorus, dramatic bridge and
interesting edgy outro, show that they know their
own craft and use vigorous skill. Artists such as
the before mentioned Kasabian tend to differ in
approach from release to release and that
seems to be one of the patterns that Solsara
adopt. Tracks like 'Day Of The Dead' with its
more swagger style rock and 'Climbing Ivy' with
it's gentle nod to harder sounding songs from
bands such as Queens Of The Stone Age,
Primal Scream and Oasis indicate a conscious
intent to be as varied as much as possible within
the parameters of their sound. Overall a rather
mature attitude to songwriting throughout this EP
and you'll find this satisfying I'm sure if you enjoy
good rock n roll.
