RYAN'S GIG GUIDE JANUARY 2016 - page 9

Their first release since 2009 and it's good to be back. VATO are a band I came across six
years ago and it's fantastic to find out that they have been busy writing during that time. Make
no mistake, this is an album worth the wait; whilst most of the songs clock in at 3 minutes long;
they are short hit worthy bullets of rock n roll punk and dare I say pop. Not pop as in cheese
but as in the great bands who rocked those fake charts from time to time such as say The
WildHearts. 'Best Of Enemies shows VATO as quite versatile in style as they really push their
musicianship whilst knocking out very polished yet raw sounding masterpieces. Highlights for
me are 'Another Girl' which is a real catchy number for sure and needs to be sent to internet
and FM radio stations for it's pure accessibility, it's “woooooooo” moments and the lovely
basslines it has on it. Whether you're an alcoholic or not; these feel like drinking songs;
especially 'Home James'; just pure energy and if you want to sing merrily and need your ears
to bleed you still have songs like 'All fucked Up' which take you through all states. 'Hell Yeah'
has an Anti-Nowhere League nature about it and one for the heavier rock fans. This will appeal
for sure to all those annoying college chicks who wear red tartan dresses that aren't Scottish
– that's when you know you have a good record.
