Greetings Ryan's Gig Guiders
This month I'm revealing to you all a little
experiment I conducted in an effort to promote
some of the bands and acts who have featured
in the pages of this very magazine In July last
year I went back to the USA to begin filming a
documentary about the entertainment
industry; it's now on YouTube under the title
“CLINGFILM – a Nick J Townsend film”
My idea was to interview and film various
media personalities in Hollywood produce a
film with the help of Debbie Stewart my agent
from Scotland and create a soundtrack that is
totally made up of music from bands and artists
situated in different areas of the Midlands and
it seems to have worked quite well
This was a planned project that took six months
to organise the filming and interviews editing
and getting permission from all involved One
of the reasons why I did this was to show just
how possible it is to make a big idea become
reality If you have heard of the bands that
appear in this column it would be a great thing
for you to not just watch the film but also tell
others that they are on the soundtrack to a film
made in Los Angeles
When I myself first started getting into music
and formed the band WEAK there was a time
when I would find filmmakers approaching me

with interest in using my music for their movie
projects; but the majority would never
complete their proposed films It used to really
piss me off because not only would the
musicians get let down but all the actors who
appeared in their films would have their time
wasted too This pushed or maybe inspired me
to one day create a film with real personalities
and use music from the area I started making
music in

The film is now available to watch on YouTube
and in time we'll have this along with other
films I'm proposing making shown at
independent cinemas These things take time
but the film is an example of what you can
achieve when working together As a reward for
the bands becoming involved in this film I have
provided a little info on each band or
songwriter Please check out their music and
share the film with others if you get chance
