RYAN'S GIG GUIDE March 2017 - page 7

RGG March 2017 - p.7
Four track EP by Wolverhampton indie act
Sleuth opens with 'For The Idle We stand', which
sounds like a perfect James Bond theme tune
and features some very memorable lyrical
moments such as “Hanging around like Peter
Parker, dressing more like Peter Sallis” and “I
was born to lie in bed”. Musically you can hear
a lot of influences such as Elliott Smith, David
Bowie, ELO and George Harrison peeking
through and spread throughout the songs which
are all stamped with beautiful harmonies and
delicate note choice. The whole is woven
together to make a truly remarkable EP. Some
excellent songwriting here.
Highlights include 'Together Everyone' with its
gentle grand piano, heavenly chorus and wailing
bend guitars and the uptempo and uplifting
'Sometimes We Just Need A break' with more
great lines such as “We wanted riches of gods
with the freedom of birds”.
