RYAN'S GIG GUIDE December 2016 - page 6

RGG December 2016 - p.6
Since signing up to management Ed Geater has
secured slots at national festivals including
Cornbury and Beautiful Days, appeared on a
live session for BBC Introducing, signed a
non-exclusive recording deal with a London
based independent music label called Music
Mandi, released the 'Barriers EP' and, most
recently, the 'Unseen EP'. His latest music video
'Symmetry' (directed by Dom Catena and Zak
Cannarozzo) which is a song taken from his
afore mentioned recent EP, reveals Ed's
progression in film too with this well produced
cinematic story that appears to really capture the
sentiment of the song. 2017 is looking promising
for this extremely talented musician and we here
at RGG magazine only wish him all the very best
with his music career. For more information
about Ed Geater and where to catch him live
then please check out his official website:
This once avid violin player, at an early age
made the decision to swap instruments, adopted
the guitar and concentrated on songwriting. You
could argue that growing up with a musical diet
of alternative rock, folk, electronica and classical
music is not as uncommon as you'd think but Ed
Geater stands out for many different reasons
and one particular example is his metronomic
skills as a beatboxer. Perhaps the music video
to 'Don't Think', which is a song taken from his
'Barriers EP' release, is a good starting point?
The black and white music video shot, directed
and edited by Elijah Phillips and filmed at
Birmingham's Infinity Studios captures Ed
casually walking towards the center of an empty
white room (empty of course except for an
acoustic guitar, mic, stand and loop station) and
within thirty seconds we are graced with his
passion for organic vocal beats and natural
ambient sounding textures. Ed has embraced
this very difficult to master sound which to the
ear is simple to appreciate and adore but if that
isn't enough for you then maybe his damn fine
singing voice will get your attention?
ED GEATER
They're all talking about him, don't say they aren't because they are, and now
we're talking about him too. Birmingham has a new musical talent to be
proud of and Ed Geater is his name. If you're unaccustomed to his body of
work then let's get you started, but rest assured you'll be hearing bigger
things from arguably the future king of UK music.
Forget Sheeran... there's a new Edward in town.
