Many of you will remember Sam of JB’s in Dudley - one of the longest running live
music venues in the country which ran from 1969 until 2011 - which was when the
PRS decided to get all heavy handed and by their actions, contributed to the closure
of the venue. Not the smartest thing they could have done given that the venue had
paid PRS getting on for £1m over the course of its existence. Rather than give Sam
and his venue some much needed breathing space - which many venues could
have done with at the time - they
forefieted any future income from the
venue by sending in the Bailiffs.
Brilliant business sense!
Well, on a happier note, I am really
pleased to spread the news that the
old fucker is turning 70 this year and
local band ‘The Little Band’ have
been asked to provide the music at
the Lamp Tavern Brewhouse in
Dudley on December 10th.
The Lamp Tavern is only a couple of
hundred yards from the original site
of JB’s in King Street - a name that
has gone down in music legend. It will
be great to see a packed house for
this one. It's no more than the man
deserves, and there will hopefully be
one or two very special guests to join
the band on stage! See you there?
