RYAN'S GIG GUIDE JULY 2015 - page 6

RGG July 2015 - p.6
because of Apple offering a three month free
trial streaming service that she didn't like; her
letter to Apple politely damned them She
claims to be standing up for the small
musicians and songwriters as the company at
first refused to pay any artist royalties during
this period; we could argue that she's being
incredibly short sighted as millions are likely to
continue subscribing after a free trial I'm really
starting to get a little suspicious of these
successful musicians standing up for peasants; I
just wish they'd name some of these lower level
nobodies that they defend as it'd really help
boost their tiny careers Anyway a story broke
out the following day that Eddy Cue the senior
vice president of Apple had read the
letter by Taylor Swift u turned the original
decision and decided to now pay bands and
labels during the
day free trial The only
casualties are the readers of this story because
we've all been part of an unnecessary drama or
publicity stunt for Swift's album and Apple's
streaming service; I was suspicious when I heard
Taylor Swift had written a letter; who writes a
fucking letter in the
st century to a
conglomerate computer firm? This is just
marketing for both sides and there's no reason
we should all have known about it
Music blogs or industry pages for magazines
have been fixated on investigating the recent
data collected by Spotify which reveals that
metal is the most popular genre being listened
to Well here's many peoples first thought; if
the music industry is as desperate as ever and in
serious decline then why isn't it now taking
steps to ensure that guitar based music is more
dominant? If pop music defines what is
popular music and now metal is the most
popular music then shouldn't metal be now a
larger portion of pop music? Nah because
record companies have lost touch with real
musicians that play songs live; thus meaning
labels and managements would be creating
problems for themselves by deliberately
elevating the careers and egos of people with
actual talent instead of the toss they normally
coat in glitter dung
Greetings Ryan's Gig Guiders
When I read about the music industry I find it
fascinating but at the same time it could
potentially bore me enough to make both my
nipples invert and point out of my back So
here's the music news being discussed now
Giraffe french kisser Gene Simmons of
American rock band KISS defends record labels
and blames fans for killing the infrastructure
that is needed to support new artists this is the
exact same Gene Simmons who suggested last
year that "Poor people" should try "being nice
to rich people" According to him the recent
upsurge of people wanting music for free is to
blame for new talent not being able to emerge
Oh that reminds me music laws in the UK have
changed those of you who lawfully bought
CD's and copied the music to your computer are
now classed as criminals A London high court
has ruled that when you back up a CD that
you've purchased you're now "harming" the
rights holders calling into question the
legality of ripping your own CD's Christ
almighty do you remember the innocent days
of copying KISS albums on taped cassettes?
Those were crazy nights
Former bukkake cum shower girl Taylor Swift
prevented her new album (which I'm not going
to name) from being streamed on iTunes
