Happy New Year Ryan's Gig Guiders
In January we are accustomed to hearing
inspirational people liars and morons
announcing their New Years resolutions; all of
them adamant that they'll change their ways
with their new "To don't" list which often reads
like a watered down version of the Ten
Commandments Normally a life altering
metamorphosis begins on day one of an
arbitrary calendar followed by a week of
half soaked commitment before the idea is
totally abandoned or forgotten Musicians
songwriters and bands often use the start of a
new year to launch a plan of action for the next
twelve months But similar to a New Years
resolution some of these ideas never quite see
the light of day Perhaps this year will be the
year you take your creativity more seriously?
At the dawn of a brand new year original bands
awaken from their short term forced
hibernation with a new game plan only to
discover that the population is still asleep due to
the harmful effects of the propaganda machine
we call the Christmas season For many
musicians our minds are still recovering from the
onslaught of mass consumerism time off work
spent with family the bombardment of
Television News broadcasts describing the latest
false flag operations and being forced by others
to watch Madagascar or Pitch Perfect
Whereas some musicians braved the winter
conditions by performing an irritating medley
of Santa friendly classics (such as festive hits by
Louis Armstrong Eartha Kitt and Solomon
Burke) released a snowman orientated single
or simply covered themselves with tinsel and
holly in a desperate attempt to attract
attention the rest of us musicians continue to
strive forward during a cold musical climate As
we all know preserving dignity whilst doing
anything music related during Christmas is as
easy as squeezing cum out of a stone
Right now is always the best period to be
creative Currently it's a tricky time of year for
a musician because everyone is broke from
excessive or unnecessary spending and it's
considerably more difficult to be very publicly
active with your career until you've become
more financially stable which by my rough
calculations should be something like the year
Let's face it if you're going to let money
completely dictate your artistic output then the
music business really isn't for you Unless of
course you're stupid enough to sell your soul to
Satan by writing brainwashing music with no
soul in it designed purely to dumb us down
Not having enough time to do stuff is one of the
common complaints I hear when writers or
performers explain why they aren't up to much
or have abandoned a great idea Time
management is a skill in itself and I wish
sometimes that there were eight days in a week
but that would just screw up the menstrual
cycle About two months ago I decided to quit
smoking It had nothing to do with health
