Lions of Dissent (LOD) formed in 2015 and in
that time, have gained praise from the likes of
Simon Raymonde (Cocteau Twins), Anton
Newcombe (Brian Jonestown Massacre) and
Simone Marie Butler (Primal Scream), whilst
also attracting various international and
domestic press and radio interest. It was quickly
evident from day one that LOD wouldn’t be
considered a traditional band, instead
embracing a liberating, collective ethos – giving
equal importance to every aspect, but still
predominantly focusing on music. Everything is
self-produced and created from within, from the
words, music, video production, art design and
website, to screen printing t-shirts and curating
photoshoots.There are currently 10 members
working across the various parts, including a
creative director, songwriters, musicians,
producers, filmmakers, web developers and
graphic designers. Lead songwriter Tim Baker
describes the group’s philosophy: “
It’s not only
through absolute necessity, but an essential part
of the ethos that we create everything ourselves
– constructing and expanding our own universe
piece by piece and inviting everybody to step
inside as they pass us by.”
