Verdict:
This is the brand new single 'God
Game Suicide' by Birmingham three-piece
Torous who are slowly making a sizeable name
for themselves with their strong Celtic hard rock
sound. As with most Torous songs you can
expect to have no idea which direction the
song's taking you and you'll love every minute
of the journey. Their latest single has an even
larger well produced feel and I must admit that
they are sounding more Celtic than, dare I say,
Cruachan. If anyone out there really knows their
Celtic rock roots then they should be aware that
the band I just mentioned was one of the many
early Irish bands who kind of helped kick start
this genre of music. What Torous have done is
genius. Whereas many of the main big players
of the genre often just write standard 8-30
minute long death metal tunes and then half
way through the drummer remembers they're
Celtic so the double bass pedal is ordered to
rest whilst the other members dollop a 20
second fiddle solo backed by a tin Whistle and
a button Accordion; Torous on the otherhand
write pretty much 100 percent Celtic inspired
sounding 3 minute smart hard rock tunes. It's
cool to be Celtic (they so should say
that....hmmm maybe not). God Game Suicide is
out now courtesy of Holier Than Thou Records.
Torous are carving a new hole in your ass and
it smells good.

Verdict:
Definitely EP of the month. This 6
song CD by emerging singer songwriter Jess
Silk from the Black Country is a natural
progression from her last release 'Background
Noise' and she sure has a lot to say on 'The SP
EP'. Imagine a female Frank Turner and I think
you'll understand more why lyrically this woman
is making a very big impact on the acoustic
circuit. Whilst tracks such as 'These Scars Of
Mine' stand out as Jess Silk's rock based
onslaught and closing song 'The Sparrow Flies
South For Winter' gives off the similar kind of
uptempo energy omitted by artists such as
Flogging Molly; for the majority of this release
Silk is showing less rage, more thoughtful
discipline and some very well controlled
emotion. Songwriting clearly isn't a game to Jess
Silk and she ain't no charlatan with a hockey
stick; she's an honest truth seeking warrior
observer with a baseball bat for a tongue who
knows exactly how to speak her mind and more
importantly knows when to be gentle. Highlights
on here arguably are 'The Valkyrie' and
'LSODM'. Silk can't write a bad song; her voice
is beautiful and her words are sharper than a
Gillette.
