punk and heavy metal. In fact if you fused The
Offspring with early Biohazard then you get a
good idea of what this record sounds like.
There's definitely some good songs here and it's
not often you find a band that can pull off this
kind of raw style on a record without sounding
amateur. Unhinged manage to make a very
impressive first EP; they have the in your face
rawkness you'd expect of a punk band with top
grinding hardcore guitar riffs but the songs have
that memorable edge with their catchy melodic
shouted choruses. Unhinged are a fairly fresh
band and even though it might be a demo quality
sound it doesn't distract. There's something I like
developing here and I think they are on to a
good thing as long as they maintain this attitude
on future records.
Verdict:
This incredible talent from
Birmingham is Harry Jordan who will be
releasing an EP in March with fellow musician
Michelle Dawes under the title 'Blowing Up Your
Juke Box'. Recorded at Birmingham's iconic
Highbury studios whose previous clients include
Duran Duran and Ocean Colour Scene. In the
meantime you can listen to some demos on
soundcloud; one song in particular that you
should hear is the rockabilly 'Maggie May' which
was her first demo released last Autumn and is
also available to hear on reverbnation.com/
harryjordanmusic along with a cover of Pulp
song 'Common People. Her sound is retro,
vintage and heavily Influenced by the sounds of
50's and the 60's, writing witty lyrics about
Birmingham, telling stories about no good
characters and basically offering something very
likeable. Harry is a much needed addition to our
music world and please support her
musicianship.
Harry and Michelle will be launching their EP in
Birmingham on March 20th at Ort cafe in
Mosley.
