RYAN'S GIG GUIDE MARCH 2015 - page 22

RGG March 2015 - p.22
A stomping drum beat greeted the arrival of
opening track
Sorry Sight
and the tone for the rest
of the evening was set For the next minutes or
so those crammed into the Flapper were treated to
throwback Indie melodies stellar vocals and slick
rhythms to get your dancing feet moving Well
those of birthday boy and Revolver number one
fan Pete at least
After a swift album plug one of my personal
favourites
Man With No Name
burst into life The
track has got a great old school feel much to the
delight of the bumper crowd Following tune
Shout Out
had previously been picked up by BBC
Introducing and you could instantly hear why It’s
just got ‘single’ written all over it
He Must Be In Love
was a slower altogether
smoother affair reminiscent of a latter day Oasis
It had all been pretty much standard Indie/Brit Pop
fare up to this point but
Want It All
showcased the
bands’ versatility That’s not to say they suddenly
turned into AC/DC but the track definitely has a
rockier feel I liked the switch; it stopped the set
from getting stale I think with the song itself they
could have maybe pushed the rock envelope a bit
further and really gone for it with maybe a big
towering guitar solo but that’s just me
No Time
To Forgive
followed immediately as the band
returned to more familiar Indie based territory
Western Lights
and
Think I’m Found
were more of
the same and I have to say that despite frontman
Dan Wickett’s cold the band really rose to the
occasion It was evident as the night went on that
the flat cap adorned vocalist wasn’t
com
fortable but he was definitely more animated on
stage than when I had seen the band previously
Feel A Feeling
was certainly one of the highlights
of the night Just for the way that the song is
written if nothing else
As the night wound to an end the band wheeled
out one more surprise by playing a song so new
that it didn’t actually feature on the album That
song is called
King Of Clubs
and from what I heard
it certainly shows a slight shift in style for the
band The best way that I can describe it is that
they’ve gone a bit more Kasabian The song has got
a bit of a grittier slant to it As much as bands don’t
need to reinvent themselves every time they
release a new record it is always good to see them
evolving a little
Penultimate track
Into The Fire
is notable for its
unusual tempo changes in as much as the mid song
pace changes see the tune get slower rather than
faster before picking back up again For the finale
Yesterday Or So It Seems
the band went back up
to their full complement of three guitars and
rounded off the night in fine style I really like the
song anyway but it suited the occasion down to
the ground and ensured that the audience went
home with a spring in their step
There was a cracking atmosphere with great songs
and a band having fun on stage It was a really
important night for the band and they delivered
For me it was a brilliant way to kick off
