Music genres are arguably supposed to be a
way of classifying or identifying the style of
music you make or enjoy listening to but with
so many in existence has the classification of
music styles become more of a hindrance to the
artists and bands affiliated with them in recent
times? Subgenres especially seem to target
such a niche market of musicians Sometimes
only a handful of bands; meaning that if some
were to split up and disband then half of the
subgenre would collapse If Hasbro decided to
produce a toy robot that transforms into Rolf
Harris you’d say that the idea is doomed from
the start and that’s pretty much how I perceive
some of these new names for music genres
Did you know that ‘post melodic industrial
metal core’ is dead? If that last statement
actually upset you in some way then you really
should swallow a set of car keys And that’s only
because you survived the hypothetical car
accident I wished you’d had People who swear
by genres just annoy me in fact just writing
about this pisses me off
Fromwhat I understand the genre term ‘Battle
Metal’ was created by the magazine Metal
Hammer and inspired by an album of the same
name by Finnish band Turisas who define
themselves as ‘Folk metal’ This has resulted in
fans arguing and actually squabbling between
themselves as to whether they are ‘Battle
metal’ ‘Viking metal’ ‘Folk Metal’ or maybe the
easiest way to identify them is ‘Heavy metal’
which leaves me just wishing that their
followers
would
have
some
happy
genocide inspired party and fight to the death
to sort it out; but of course that would
completely wipe out their entire fan base
Changing the subject; I honestly feel like
punching idiots that utter “Are you a emo?”
because it sounds retarded Oh damn there I go
again incorrectly labelling someone with a
labelling difficulty as idiotic and wrongfully
categorising their actions in my review with the
serious condition of having significantly
impaired cognitive functioning; I should have
just simply said it sounds daft (which is probably
a subgenre of retardation or is it the other way
round?)
If I thought you were the type of person that
listens to the blues or country I wouldn’t say
“Are you a blues?” or “Are you a country?”
(shorten that last one) “Are you a emo?” is just
awful English and that’s why it irritates me The
media seems to label young people as emo or
goth and I don’t think those that see themselves
as that identity know exactly what it is to be
one I overheard a guy wearing a black leather
trench coat full on make up and New Rock
boots (not New Goth boots) declare “No I’m not
into Jim Morrison because I’m a goth” which is
interesting when you consider that critic John
Stickney is allegedly known for coining the term
"gothic rock" to describe the music of The Doors
