Verdict:
Wednesbury based band Pörk
release Cogito Ergo Sum which for those with a
full grasp of Latin translates to "I think, therefore
I am”. The band see themselves as a stoner
grunge band; I'm actually quite impressed by the
good quality of songwriting on these six studio
songs and on the bonus live track too. First of all
there is a real jumble sale of influences at work
here; this isn't a band that you can just simply
sum up a song of theirs using one word then
walk away thinking you can predict everything
else they've written These are very well crafted
tunes each with such a life of their own. There
are moments of The Cult, Mötorhead, Faith No
More, Silverchair, Led Zeppelin, Static X, early
Metallica and Alice In Chains but you can't pin
down any one particular band as what you have
is Pörk. Highlights are 'Baby Blue', the stunning
live track 'Cigars' and my favourite on here has
to be 'Godsmoke'. Truly a fantastic EP and this
band should be taken very serious musically.

Verdict:
Just a great song really. No drums
beating here at all, just gently strummed or
plucked guitars and the softest voice you've ever
heard. Normally if I hear a tune without any per-
cussion I switch off or start belting my own thighs
with a CD case in order to create some kind of a
beat but that would be rude to do on this delicate
and atmospheric beautiful natural sounding
master piece by Cheshire folk rockers Venus
Rising. Their singer has an amazing voice and if
you like Joni Mitchell then you'll love this. Peace
is a word many of us simply take for granted
these days; we're so used to hearing or seeing
violence fart out of our television sets every two
minutes that peacefulness to most people
means plugging in a pair of headphones into a
computer but if this song was played several
times a day I get the feeling that there would be
a lot more of us less stressed by media and ar-
guably behaving more positively. This is a band
advocating sustainability, a Resource-Based
Economy & The Venus Project and I could not
think of a better soundtrack. Please hear this
song.
