Although not as overwhelmingly depressive as
say Pink Floyd’s Dark Side Of The Moon,
Misplaced Childhood is without hesitation an
undeniably emotional journey.
The rousing “Market Square Heroes” helped to
reduce any lingering sadness at the passing
into history of Misplaced Childhood. Fish who
despite his best efforts felt the momentousness
of the occasion, which was not surprising given
that it also signified the retirement of Yatta (his
best friend and tour manager of 25 years). It
was fitting that Yatta joined Fish on stage for the
last song of the evening “The Company” (from
Fish’s solo debut album). The warmth of
camaraderie felt in the crowd was echoed on
stage and even the crew could be seen singing
along. This feeling of camaraderie was still
palpable long after the band had left the stage
and the house lights had come on judging by
the number of group selfies and group hugs
among those who were lucky enough to have
made it to the show.
Tonight was a celebration, not a mourning! Fish
has never been one to abuse fans for another
corporate dollar with ever decreasing returns of
artistry, and this tour was no exception to that
integrity. Finishing on a musical high was a
fitting way to close the curtain on the Misplaced
Childhood.
