RYAN'S GIG GUIDE JANUARY 2016 - page 28

RGG February 2016 - p.28
Debut by West Midland hard rock band Stone
Broken who release a ten track album 'All In
Time' and I like this a lot. They've kinda worked
out a main policy here for the bands output
which consists of this; all vocals are to be
catchy and guitars are either huge chunky
tower smashing riffs or very gentle - that's the
deal. They've stuck with that throughout the
record which is admirable as some bands can't
maintain an individual sound without sounding
plain but on 'All In Time' we get a good mixture
of rock and it doesn't bore at all. We begin with
'Not Your Enemy' which in my mind is as riff
solid as the tune “Hail” by Soil, amazing metal
guitar groove. 'Another Day' is their lightest
track and one of the strongest vocal
performances on the album, professional,
massive in sound, accessible without any
cheese and it's got to be the one song of theirs
that could really get this band a lot of
mainstream success, it's such a terrific well
written song. The entire album is a solid
thought out package with tracks produced and
mastered by Romesh Dodangoda who's done
work for Motorhead, Bring Me The Horizon and
Bullet For My Valentine. There's a massive
American heavy rock feel to them and I'm
happy that they are already getting airplay on
Planet Rock radio as they deserve it. This is
one of those bands that have really used their
heads, got their identity nailed and it's a big
sound. Brilliant.
