Reading about how good or terrible it was just
won't make any fucking difference in the slight
est other than create possible frustration Plus
you've only got the opinion of the one asshole
who reviewed it and you can't possibly disprove
what they said unless you read another pointless
review saying otherwise for the same event
you've missed Why would you read lots of dif
ferent reviews for a show you missed? That's like
reading obituary columns for people you never
knew or heard of before and trying to work a
way to get to know them better in the future
What's the point? You've fucking missed them
you big cow turd
(Someone give you a bad review Nick? Ed )
At least with a CD review you can listen to the
CD yourself and make up your own mind
whether you thought what was written about it
was justified You also have to consider that
these people who review gigs are spending most
of their night writing shit down with a pen and
paper or frantically tapping away on an iPad like
some gormless speed dialing finger painter and
are probably missing loads of arguably important
occurrences whilst they document a personal re
port about themselves appearing at a live con
cert surrounded by other people who are paying
more attention to the show than they are I can
understand a quick after show summary or
statement like "That's two hours of my life
raped" or "Yes I'm glad I went" but why read a
lengthy and detailed blow by blow account from
some possibly biased retarded reviewer? You
would never say to a friend "Do me a big favour
would you? I won't be able to see the PRINCE
You've all heard of a "pub crawl" right? Well
recently I did an experiment and invented a
"venue crawl" Now unlike the "pub crawl" this
was not conducted in one night and it involved
no alcoholic drinks at all For six weeks I made
an effort to attend live gigs in the Midlands on
every evening I had free I don't get much free
time so this was a challenge These gigs were
scattered between different venues and the
mission was to go out all on my own observe
encourage original music calculate how much
it cost to go out to them all see what fun it can
be without getting drunk (so my judgement
isn't tarnished) and test this very gig guide that
you are holding now but this is NOT a review
I will never EVER do a review for a live gig
why? Well personally I don't read gig reviews
and I think they are almost a ridiculous concept
in many ways In publications such as this you
get a pre warning description of an event tak
ing place sometime in the future and you have
the opportunity to go to it but when you've
missed a gig you've missed it That's it really
